FIFA Ranking Calculator

Calculate how an international match changes FIFA ranking points with the SUM formula used in the men's world ranking. Pick two teams, set match importance, and see the projected points and world rank.

FIFA Ranking Points Calculator

Choose two teams. Their points already include matches FIFA has counted. Set the match, then calculate.

1 Choose two teams

Team A

Team B

2 Add a missing match (usually not needed)

Leave this closed for a normal calculation. Add a match here only if it was played after the points above were saved. Do not add a match that is already included.

Team A

Team B

If both teams played that match, add it once. Matches are counted from oldest to newest.

3 Set the match

Choose how important the match is and the result, then calculate.

What does match importance mean?

How the FIFA Ranking Calculator Works

The calculator applies FIFA's public SUM method to the men's world ranking points shown here. The math runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

  1. Start from the saved points

Team points are FIFA's live men's ranking, saved on the date shown on the calculator. They already include matches FIFA has counted since the last official ranking.

  2. Apply the SUM formula

    New points follow P = Pbefore + I x (W - We). Expected result We uses the Elo-style curve with divisor 600. Penalty shoot-outs use FIFA's 0.75 / 0.50 scoring.

  3. See projected world rank

After the calculation, the site re-sorts both teams in the local ranking list so you can see where they would sit if that result were applied to this ranking.

FIFA Ranking Points Formula

FIFA ranking points change after counted international matches. The men's SUM formula is P = Pbefore + I x (W - We).

W is the actual result share. We is the expected share from the points gap. I is match importance. A team that beats expectations gains points. A team that falls short loses points.

Match Importance in the FIFA Ranking

Match importance scales how many points move. Friendlies use 5 or 10. Qualifiers usually use 25. Continental knockouts from the quarter-finals use 40. World Cup group and round of 16 use 50. World Cup quarter-finals and later use 60.

  • Friendly outside the FIFA window: I = 5
  • Friendly inside the FIFA window: I = 10
  • Nations League group stage: I = 15
  • World Cup / continental qualifiers: I = 25
  • Continental finals through round of 16: I = 35
  • Continental finals from the quarter-finals: I = 40
  • World Cup through round of 16: I = 50
  • World Cup from the quarter-finals: I = 60

How to Run an Accurate Simulation

The points already include matches FIFA has counted since the last official ranking. Open step 2 only for a match played after those points were saved.

Pick the correct match importance before you calculate. Treating a qualifier as a friendly understates the swing.

The world rank you see is an estimate from this table. Check the published ranking on FIFA.com.

Official FIFA Ranking vs Projected Rank

FIFA publishes the official ranking on its own calendar. The calculator starts from the newer live points, then shows how one match would change them.
