FIFA Ranking Calculator Guide
What the calculator does
The FIFA ranking calculator shows how one international match would change men's world ranking points. It uses FIFA's SUM formula on the live points saved here, then estimates each team's world rank from this table.
It is an unofficial tool. FIFA still publishes the official ranking on its own calendar. Use the calculator for a friendly, a qualifier, a continental knockout, or a World Cup match.
Read the dates first
Points saved on is the day these totals were stored. They already include matches FIFA has counted since the last official ranking. Next official ranking is when FIFA is due to publish the next list.
The ranking table and every country page use the same points. For a normal calculation, leave step 2 closed.
Choose two teams
Type a country name or code and pick the team so the points fill in. Examples: Argentina, Brazil, Spain, France, and England.
Leave those points as they are if you want the current ranking. Change them only for a custom scenario. The full list is in teams A-Z.
Add a missing match only if you need to
Step 2 is for a match played after these points were saved, one FIFA has not counted yet. Do not add a match that is already included. If both teams played it, add it once.
Set match importance
Match importance (I) scales how many points move. Choosing the wrong I is the most common way to get an inaccurate simulation. Use the match importance guide when you are unsure.
- Friendly outside the FIFA window: I = 5
- Friendly inside the FIFA window: I = 10
- Nations League group stage: I = 15
- World Cup or continental qualifiers: I = 25
- Continental finals through round of 16: I = 35
- Continental finals from the quarter-finals: I = 40
- World Cup through round of 16: I = 50
- World Cup from the quarter-finals: I = 60
Set the result
Pick win, draw, or loss for Team A. For knockout ties decided on penalties, use the penalty options. In the SUM method, a penalty win counts as W = 0.75 and a penalty loss as W = 0.50, not a full 1.0 / 0.0.

Read the result
After you calculate, you see new points for both teams, the point change, and an estimated world rank. That rank uses only this table. Other teams' matches can still change the official order.
The difference between the official list, FIFA's live points, and a projection is explained on live FIFA ranking. The formula is on how the FIFA ranking works and in the SUM guide.
Start from a country page
A country page can open the calculator with that team already selected. /?teamA=ARG#frc-calculator selects Argentina.
Before you share a result
- Check the points saved date
- Keep the filled-in points unless you are testing a custom total
- Set importance from the real competition
- Use the penalty result only if the match went to a shoot-out
- Call the rank an estimate, not FIFA's next official list
